Undergraduate Research Opportunities

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities (URO) program gives undergrads an opportunity to participate in research with engineering faculty members.

The program, which enhances undergraduate employment and educational opportunities, offers a limited number of stipends to participating students who assist in faculty research projects during the academic year. Stipend recipients participate in a variety of research tasks under faculty supervision.

Innovations with Impact

Berkeley's College of Engineering stands at the leading-edge of cross-disciplinary research, from societal-scale systems to bioengineering and nanotechnology.

Groundbreaking work underway here today by our renowned faculty will dramatically change our lives tomorrow.

CITRIS

Centered at Berkeley, the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) focuses on creating information technology to tackle society's most critical needs.

A collaborative effort among 100 faculty at four UC campuses, CITRIS focuses on energy efficiency, transportation, earthquake preparedness, environmental monitoring, health care, education, homeland defense, and cultural research.

Affiliated Research Organizations

Among the major facilities associated with the Berkeley campus is the Richmond Field Station (RFS), a 150-acre site where more than a dozen research programs are in progress. Located about seven miles northwest of Berkeley at Marina Bay in Richmond, RFS is home to the Earthquake Engineering Research Center, the Earthquake Simulator Laboratory, the Structural Research Laboratory, the Environmental Engineering and Health Sciences Laboratory, and many other research institutes and labs.

Another important resource is Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, a UC-managed lab that conducts unclassified research for the US Department of Energy.
